This our last year with Willowbrook Lake Apts, and I am so thrilled. They are undergoing yet another property management change. In all fairness I love the community. I love the accessibility to some of our favorite shops and dining. When we first moved in the apartments were fairly priced, and the staff was a dream to work with. Now with the remodel, changing property management again, and rent increases- living here is not worth it. The staff is rude, inflexible, and unhelpful. They do nothing to boost fellowship or mingling in the community. We get notices not by phone calls or by e-mail. Mostly, a sign hanging on residents entrance door informing us of the upcoming changes. What was once a cool little community is now dwindling with tenants. We see more moving vans of tenants moving away than those coming in. We used to have to plan parking because the community was booming, now its not a problem because so many of us are leaving. When we went to sign our notice to vacate, the young lady-who is no longer there didn't even ask us, "what could we do to improve and want to make you stay here?" It was just, "sign this form, that's all" not even a good-bye. I understand that companies need to make money. I understand that w remodels and upgrade the tenants should expect some increase, but with an addition of having a washer and dryer: (it takes up the entire master closet bc it is not a stackable unit), adding water and other extras (trash, sewage, and an admin fee) our rent increased by $134-$146/month just from these additions. Willowbrook is great for college bound roomates or retirees looking for a nice place in a happening side of town. For a lot of the tenants who lived here, they did not fit into either of these groups. If you plan on moving here, the community is awesome. The staff that comes w managing the property, not so much.
I have lived here for 5 years and in two months I will be gone forever. The renovations that have been done to these apartments are not worth what they want to charge per month. But this price increased is due to the fact that they are gentrifying the area (along with most of the city) to rid it of black people. If you are a black person I would recommend you find somewhere else to live. The staff are rude and clearly are impartial to black people, but hey this is Indiana what else is new.
